This year I’m proud to be supporting an excellent new venture by Eden Project creator Tim Smit. The Big Lunch aims to get neighbours out of their homes and into the street for parties and social gatherings all over the country. This is something close to my heart and the main reason I started My Neighbourhoods. The more we can get people talking (even online) and meeting in local communities the better overall life throughout the country will be. There are countless studies that show a close community is a happier one.

I was recently invited to The Big Lunch head offices and met Claire Sanders who took me through plans for The Big Lunch and I’ve no doubt it will have a massive impact. Here’s the offical line:
On Sunday 19th July 2009, The Big Lunch is inviting you and all 61 million people across the UK to simultaneously sit down to eat lunch with your neighbours, in the middle of your street as a simple act of community.
A new initiative run by the Eden Project, The Big Lunch encourages communities to come together through growing food and flowers; creating street music, art and theatre; dressing the street and, of course, cooking and eating together.
My Neighbourhoods are a supporter along with many other companies, large and small. The images on this page were taken at The Big Lunch launch party I attended.
